Is there any political caricature more threadbare than casting the Republican Party as "the Confederacy?" CNN analyst Gloria Borger tossed that one on Thursday, with all its pejorative assumptions about hidden or not-so-hidden racial animus, noting New England states had no House Republicans.

Didn’t she play in Mandingo?
I fly commercial around the country a fair amount. In virtually every waiting area, United/American/Delta/somewhat less for SW, CNN is blaring away into the private peace of the waiting traveler.
It’s all part of the same conspiracy. All the big corporations, universities, unions, churches, all the big institutions of America are dedicated to turning our nation into a socialist ‘paradise’, like Cuba. It is pointless to try to resist. Their propaganda is everywhere.
One of Turtledove’s best works.
Bringing up the race card stops the discussion COLD! It tries to destroy the credibility of the accused. The accused is then forced to waste time and energy defending the non-racist status rather than defending the original point.
Well, the DNC looks like The Politburo.
A lot was wrong with the Confederacy. Right now the worst thing is people like Gloria Borger are not made to see the connection between old Confederacy and the new Democratic party. Jefferson Davis ought to be Borger's number#1 hero. Lincoln believed in free labor and the free market, as we do today. He'd be appalled at the leftists trying to steal him for their foolishness.
The Confederacy was not well-mannered, caring, genuine nor hospitable. It was an engine of oppression that often mistreated ordinary Southern whites almost as bad as it treated southern blacks. The South is not the Confederacy and the Confederacy is not the South and never was. People like Gloria Borger have no clue.
Jim Crow laws and the Democrat party. I love that PBS did this. Very surprised it hasn’t been cleansed from the internet.

I know this is an old thread but I feel a need to response to this statement. technically and legalistically it appeared they did, but it practical terms it was the fighting men of the North on the western front that ended slavery. Let me explain, On the eastern front with the Army of the Potomac their wasn't much slavery left. But on the western front in the cotton land slavery was well alive, Troops that passed through that territory saw what slavery was all about which was basically blacks doing all the work while white men got very rich off their labors. Sure there was many blacks conscripted to work for the northern army's to build forts etc. But if you gave them a chose between working for Lincolns army or Jefferson Army I think you find it was a no brainer they would choose Lincolns army hands down.
The thing about a welfare state is that you will find that most people have no problem with a few people being on welfare that need it. But when to many people get on welfare that don't need it you'll see a change in attitude. Zero and the corrupt democrats may make inroads for a season but when the working tax payer gets bitter about the government taking their money and giving it to people that don't deserve it then you'll see real change and not just zero change.
thanks for your comments, Most people have no idea of what the Confederacy was all about. Just like most people do not have a clue about what the Democrates are all about or where they are taking us.
