I then went on to discuss the history of carry in the United States and the fact that while today, concealed carry is seen by much of the populace as synonymous with the right-to-carry, it is not, in fact, a right in most states (residents of Vermont may pat themselves on the back at this point).

Alaska should be praised for switching from concealed carry privilege to right not too long ago within its borders. The concealed carry privilege was retained for Alaskans who wanted to enjoy reciprocity concealed carry privilege in other states that recognize it.

Not familiar with the Ill “insurance provision,” but yes, that’s true. We the people have allowed the gov’t to start down this slippery slope with “common sense” restrictions on the right to bear.

I don’t advocate gun rights for violent felons, for those with a history of mental illness, etc., but these restrictions should only be issued by a judge following due process.

Open versus concealed is a purely tactical decision -- and I am the only one who has the right to make that decision for me. IMHO, concealed carry is tactically superior in most social situations because:

1. It doesn't advertise that I am armed -- providing the positive element of surprise...

2. It doesn't draw unwanted (and unwarranted) attention from the sheeple...

In other than social situations, (i.e. on my own place and when elsewhere in the woods) I carry openly.

I repeat: No person or government has the right to make those choices for (or deny them to) me!

Viewing the 2nd Amendment as a privilege works for those who see the U.S. Constitution as a living document that needs to be perfected, rather than a legal document that means just (and only) what is stated within.

Personally, I have no problem viewing the Constitution as a "living document": No part of it is fixed for perpetuity, but is always subject to revision BY AMENDING IT.

During the interview, the anchor asked me the question "What do you say to those 2nd Amendment supporters who oppose open carry?" I have been asked this question before... However, it suddenly occurred to me that the question, as asked, made absolutely no sense ...
