In my opinion, that’s a very healthy response — thank you. Let’s get to the work of getting our Republic back to being a republic, and pray that there is no civil unrest.
BTW, I am definitely in favour of keeping the first and second amendments completely in place.
Government may have power to coerce, but they have no power to deny said rights. Our free will...extending to our free speech and right to defend ourselves are both under assault...but as I said, those assaulting them have no power to deny them...only infringe and coerce. Our minds are still free and with that, our free will and the ability to defend ourselves, we can vouchsafe the rest.
That's really what the 2nd amendment was all about in the 1st place and is why posters here, understandably, feel so strongly about it.
Our founders also felt strongly about it. They exhausted every avenue...over years and years of effort to peacefully come to erms with the crown...it was only when the crown sought to take by force of arms the colonists ability to defend themselves that they came out in open fighting. They undewrstood if their own arms were takne, that free speech and words alone would not be enough to turn a tyranmt like the King at that time...there had to be the threat of force backing up the just claims and desires for liberty that those colonists had.
So it is today...that latent force, of 80+ million gun onwers, is there to try and ensure that it never has to be used...just as the founders intended.
As I say, let's hope and pray...and work...so that it holds.
