Ann Coulter appeared on a Joy Behar-hosted edition of Larry King Live last night, and CNN kept superimposing the caption, "Ann Coulter Unleashed!" Boy, was the network, and Behar, just aching for Coulter to scorch up the airwaves. This is why Coulter gets invited on TV shows when she has a book to flog: she can be relied upon to say outrageous things, egged on by her hosts.
But last night, Behar was trying too hard. Quoting the conservative columnist Rich Lowry about some discussion point, Behar suddenly asked Coulter, "Did you ever date him?" Huh? Gee, kind of a sexist question, isn't that, Joy?
Trying to align Coulter with Rush Limbaugh, Behar said that Limbaugh wasn't a Republican but an "extreme right-winger" and that a lot of Limbaugh's listeners probably hated him. Coulter responded that when you have over 20 million listeners, you're not extreme but "dead down the center" when it comes to popularity.
She also asked Behar if, given the fact that Oprah Winfrey has an audience at least as big if not larger, would Behar say that a big chunk of Oprah's audience hates Oprah? Whatever you think of Coulter, this just makes pop-cultural sense. I always enjoy you on The View, Joy, but last night on Larry King, I'd have to say, you got served by Coulter.
She called her Bristol Myers on purpose to denigrate her. Then pretended to catch herself.
By the way, I’ve never seen Ann look prettier. Joy probably wanted to kill herself if she watched the tape of the show.
I have always loved Bette as a performer -- I saw her before she was famous playing one of the good Jewish daughters in Fiddler on the Roof with Zero Mostel on Broadway. She was a standout even in that role. She was great in Beaches, in For the Boys (that WWII movie with James Caan), Gypsy, The First Wives' Club, and in so many stage revues. She has been married for 25 years to the same man and is a devoted mother, and projects a warmth and kind-heartedness that Behar has apparently never experienced in her lifetime.
That said, Bette Midler, a native of Hawaii, is a big supporter of Obama and has campaigned and spoken out for him.
My list of favorite entertainers is shrinking day by day.
A little off topic, but here’s a great vid of Don Rickles mopping the floor with Behar on The View.

Ya just don’t mess with the Don, folks!
That's a fact, Jack.

BEHAR: “The View.” Oh, yes, you’ve [been] on the show. That — did you feel we ganged up on you last time?
COULTER: No...
BEHAR: Or somewhat?
COULTER: It was a lot of fun. It was like the sisterhood of the traveling pants.
BEHAR: Yes.
COULTER: I’m expecting cards and letters from all of you.
ALBION WILDE: ROFLMAO!!
* * *
COULTER: ...oh, man, we’ve been through the Jersey girls a million times....
BEHAR: What’s your problem with them? I don’t really — I never heard this before.
COULTER: Well, they’re gone now, thanks to that book. So we can move on.
ALBION WILDE: Screaming ROFLMAOSMN (scaring my neighbors)!!
* * *
BEHAR: ...Thank you, Ann, for coming on.
COULTER: Thank you.
BEHAR: ..You were great. I loved — I loved talking to you. Really.
ALBION WILDE: [klunk]
Joy was such an a$$.
:o)
“Trying to align Coulter with Rush Limbaugh, Behar said that Limbaugh wasn’t a Republican but an “extreme right-winger” and that a lot of Limbaugh’s listeners probably hated him.”
Yeah, that makes sense, watching/listening people we hate.
I guess Joy knows this because that is how she gets her audience?
“against the most inarticulate, uncharismatic, least intelligent “conservative” that Walters could find - Elizabeth.”
... and she smokes the liberal witches in every category.
The mind boggles at what it is that makes liberal idiocy so appealing. The smugness of faux moral superiority?
...and toothless. Behar tried to gum Ann to death, but to no avail.
Larry's already senile.
COULTER and LIMBAUGH are making an awfull team and could be a nightmare for oooOOBSAMA
Coming into show business rather late, probably in her late 30s, from her original career as a schoolteacher in the 70s, Behar first gained notice as a sometimes very good
stand up comedienne. Soon, she began subbing for the host on some NY market radio stations, probably either WABC or WOR, don’t remember. Eventually, she got her own show, for a while. THis was also the period when the strident Lynn Samuels was on the air, off and on, and off and on again, in the NY market, and Behar ideologically was a good complement to her, even if they were on the same network, which they may have been. The powers-that-be must have thought she had some small degree of comic pseudo-punditry, much like the much cleverer Bill Maher, so she eventually wound up on The View, as a living embodiment of the Peter Principle. She had risen to the level of her incompetence.
And having read the larger part of that interview, I can say not only is Ann a hundred times smarter than Behar, she’s also a hundred times FUNNIER! And, I think I know that Behar appreciates that, at least a little. Even though the recognition of that fact probably only lends itself to grudgingly admitting that, yeah, like Limbaugh, Ann is really nothing more than “an entertainer”. That’s one of the ways they neutralize them.
Bump for later. Thanks for posting the transcript.
I love how Behar went to the standard lib trick of talking over the guest if you don't like their answer but had to back off when even she realized how bad it was making her look.
Behar, like Midler, looks like Dee Snider.
