WASHINGTON - Alcalde & Fay partner Vicki Iseman has settled her $27 million defamation lawsuit against The New York Times and several of its reporters.
Iseman, a Washington lobbyist, sued the Times over a story published last February during the presidential campaign season that she claimed inaccurately depicted her as having an affair with Republican candidate Sen. John McCain.
Iseman says, "I am pleased that The New York Times on behalf of its reporters, editors and company has issued a retraction and clarification."
Isemans statement continues, "The New York Times, its reporters and editors, should and must be held accountable when their investigations, reporting, and written words migrate from legitimate to illegitimate with the affect of destroying human beings based on innuendos, rumors and the reckless attributions of 'anonymous sources.'"
Iseman filed the lawsuit in December in federal court in Richmond, Va.

I wonder how much dough she got?
Did she just get an apology and a retraction or was there also a monetary settlement?
I hadn’t even known she’d filed suit. I hope she took them to the cleaners.
I hope she took those SOBs to the cleaners
Media Schadenfreude and Media Shenanigans PING
She better insist on getting the money real fast.
If The NYet Times had good lawyers, they are paying her off in worthless stock options.
Unfortunately, the ‘retraction’ was wishy-washy and included continued McCain bashing (any Republican bashing opportunity is a good one to the NYT), a side email to New Yuk Times employees was extremely unflattering of the good Ms Iceman, and in no small measure, NYT continues to ‘show no remorse’ as is usually required of criminals who want to be recognized as civilized. Only good news yesterday was that NYT slashed its dividend, making paupers of the Sulzbergers, who now have no reason not to sell out!
Well, we don’t know if she got a payoff or not, because usually one of the conditions of such payoffs is that the recipients can’t talk about it.
Hopefully it was all cash and not stock :)
Hear, hear.
The Old Gay Lady, up to her usual tricks...
But I thought “it’s just sex”!!!
Hrumph Hrumph Hrumph
Well, maybe we can force them to tell us when they accept their government bailout in the coming months.
I read that she settled without receiving any cash.
The NY retraction is hilarious.
I hope she didn’t take stock in her settlement. All cash in lump sum.
They offered her stock and she said she'd take the apology.
How much money could she get from a penny stock paper?
That was fast...
