The most likely scenario if things worsen is a military coup, a rule by martial law for a while, and a leader who wants to restore Constitutional law and will eventually step down or stand for election, not unlike George Washington. He will be the second Father of our Country. The bulk of the upper echelon officer corps are men of honor, not power grabbers – those are the politicians.

I've posted this before but I would do it this way if there was a military coup. First after establishing control with the military, I would form "MilGov" (with apologies to the role playing game, "Twilight: 2000" for having a faction with the same name) that would consist the Joint Chiefs calling all the shots. They would clean out the Executive branch from the President on down and all of Congress. The head of the Joint Chiefs would be acting President and the second in line, VP. The States will be left on their own as per Constitutional rules, they would be overruled only if their intentions would violate the Constitution.

Then a "Truth Commission" will be established and lawmakers and the former executive branch will be investigated and if there is any treason found, they will be brought up on charges in a Nuremburg style court system. If innocent, there will be no punishment but they cannot serve in and governmental capacity anymore, this ban will be for life but they will be able to get their retirement. If there is a presumption of guilt, there will be a fair trial. If found innocent, they will receive the same thing as their innocent colleages above, if guilty, jail time, up to life in jail.

During the above process and onward, there will be a purge of all political correctness in schools and the like and the education will be turned over as a local matter with the curriculum based on making one responsible for their actions, learning a vocation and learning of our history and the Constitution. I would strongly consider bring back things like the "New England Primer" and "McGuffy's Reader."

Then after some time, maybe 2012, more like 2016 or 2020, new elections will be called for a new Congress and Executive branch. There will also be another part of the government too, some sort of body that would determine how well our officials stick to the Constitution, if one strays, then either impeachment and removal proceedings will begin or another election called with new people. No more Tsars. Then after the elections, the new executive branch and Congress will take over and MilGov will generally "terminate but stay resident" and the Joint Chiefs go back to their original role.
