LAter colonization had nothing to do with Christianity. Hawever Santorum is wrong. Christianity was spread by the sword on many occasion, and even colonization hada religious aspect with missionary activity. Protestants compared the areas to Canaan and the Spanish conquered for “Glory, God and Gold!”

You guys have very short memories. Do any of you remember when Santorum first ran for the Senate against that dufus Democrat liberal college professor, Wofford, that was appointed to Heinz' Senate seat when he was killed? Had it not been for Snarlin' Arlen intervening when Theresa Heinz attacked Santorum right before the election, Santorum would never have been a Senator. That was before old Theresa married Kerry. She was a buddy of Wofford's and had been consulted to pick her hubby's successor, and had it not been for Specter giving Santorum a public thumbs up and his blessing, Wofford would have been elected to the seat. Santorum OWED Specter and he re-paid him in the 2004 election even though it cost him his own Senate seat.

You guys are probably the same bunch who trashed Santorum for doing it and voted for Casey because of it. Hope you like what you got since according to many on FR, Casey will vote just the same as Santorum, etc., blah, blah, blah. Yeah. Uh huh. Sure thing.

“Yes, my former Senator is a little factually challenged, here and elsewhere”

Jesus and his immediate followers were not rulers or conquerors. Eventually, rulers were converted.

Islam started out as a military movement, with Mohamed at its helm.

Yes, I agree with you, the reporter surely got it wrong. The sentence only makes sense to me if it was re-written as:

“Santorum said Christians believe in Jesus Christ, who never governed or conquered anyone, but Mohammed was a warrior and killed people.”

Yeah, OK, uhm, uh, .........BS argument in my opinion. Owed "favors" in place of integrity is what is wrong with the pubs and this country as a whole. "Scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" has no place in my idea of honorable service. It sucks, and that's why the pubs are sucking hind teat right now.

“Santorum said Christians believe in Jesus Christ, who never governed or conquered anyone, but Mohammed was a warrior and killed people.”

I once was asked to provide quotes for our local newspaper’s religion section. My quotes were so badly butchered that now I’ll only go on the record in religious matters if I can approve the quotes as the story is edited.

Why was Senator Specter working against Santorum's election in 2006?

And do you remember how much President Bush helped Specter in the primary in 2004? Specter repaid him by helping Kerry.

What I think was probably said was that Jesus Christ never governed or killed anyone, but Mohammed was a warrior who killed people.

That's the only interpretation that makes any sense. The claim as written (that Christians in general never governed or conquered anyone) is just absurd on the face of it.

Wow we must be the worst empire builders ever. The worlds only super power empire and we haven’t added a single territory to our empire in over a century.

Santorum: The man who got Arlen Specter reelected, so Specter could work against Santorum’s reelection.

Can't we just say that neither are worth a fig? Santorum is at best a cultural conservative, but is downright liberal in some ways. He seems to see the federal government as the shortcut to ending all of society's woes and during his tenure, was not shy at all about trying to drastically grow federal oversight in several areas.

For example, Santorum was as happy as a clam to work with liberals, introducing a bill with Kerry called the Workplace Religious Freedom Act(^), requiring employers to make religious accommodations for their employees, stripping employers of their right to run their businesses as they see fit. Hillary Clinton & Ted Kennedy were big supporters of that particular bill, too.

And lets not forget that Santorum tried to push through the Pet Animal Welfare Statute of 2005, which would have regulated small-time pet breeders at the federal level, requiring licensing with the USDA, among other things(^).

And finally, Santorum enthusiastically supported Mitt Romney last year(^), saying "If you're a Republican, if you're a Republican in the broadest sense, there is only one place to go right now and that's Mitt Romney."

I guessed right from your reply - that you don’t have the faintest idea what I’m talking about because you don’t know anything about how Santorum got to the Senate in the first place. I can’t stand Specter and have NEVER voted for him and NEVER will, but had it not been for him, PA would never have had Santorum as a Senator at all. That, IMO, is the ONE good thing that Specter has ever done for PA.

What I will always wonder is why Specter ever helped Santorum get elected to his first term. Specter started out as a Democrat, has always remained one in disguise. PA has NO Republican party, just a Republicrat one that works hand in glove with the Democrats, and Specter is typical of the Republicrat politicians. As far as I'm concerned, getting Santorum elected is the one good thing Specter has ever done for PA.

As far as Specter working against Santorum's '06 election, that's typical of the Republicrat party. The Democrats are responsible for his win in his primary against Toomey in '04, so perhaps helping Casey was payback to them because had the unions, with orders from Rendell, not run a statewide campaign re-registering as Republicans in order to vote for him in the primary, he would have lost.

You can bet that the Democrats will be doing everything in their power to re-elect Specter in '10 because he cast the deciding vote for Obama's "Porkulus" Bill which would have lost had they not co-opted him.
