Wisconsin girl, 14, nabbed after refusing to stop messaging
FEBRUARY 17--A 14-year-old Wisconsin girl who refused to stop texting during a high school math class was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, according to police. The teenager was busted last Wednesday at Wauwatosa East High School after she ignored a teacher's demand that she cease texting. The girl, whose name we have redacted from the below Wauwatosa Police Department report, initially denied having a phone when confronted by a school security officer. However, the phone was located after the girl was frisked by a female cop. The Samsung Cricket, the police report noted, was recovered "from the buttocks area" of the teenager. The student was issued a criminal citation for disorderly conduct, which carried "a bail of $298," and had her phone confiscated. The girl, who was barred from school property for a week, is scheduled for an April 20 court appearance on the misdemeanor rap. (4 pages)

Why do they call in authorities from outside of the school to take care of regular discipline problems? Isn’t calling the police extreme?
Fines? bail? the whole bit? Couldn’t she just get detention?
Good, sounds like she needs to learn one word....
......RESPECT......but I’m sure her parents will sue over this....
A lot of kids now days are not taught respect of teachers, parents, officers, or anybody.
remind me to beat my kids more often.
With parents of today.....this may have been their only choice. It does not say but I have a feeling this was not the first time. And more than likly there is more to the story than reported.
A way exists to permanently stop these types of confrontations which will not result in major injury to the girl. However, if posted, some will get upset.
You’re right about the problem. But they’ve got the wrong solution.
I know, I know...Something has to be done. But appealing to the state for help is exactly what they want us to do. In our desperation, we give them ever more power over us.
thrO d b%k @ her
So there is actually a law on the books that forbids the youth of America from texting in a center of learning?!?
Sure it’s rude, but the solution would be to send the student off to the principal’s office.
“text” is not a verb!
Beat 'em regularly, once a day, just in case they've done something wrong.
Teachers are not allowed to touch students.
So they use more taxpayer $$$$ and call the police? How out of whack!
It is now. It became a verb with the invention of well, texting.
But when a Teacher or Principle has no other choices, what is left? Calling the parents apparently did no good. The teacher cannot punish her with out some back lash. I don’t feel that calling a local police officer constitutes power over us. If that were the case, we should never call the local police dept. for anything.
Today, that’s all the school can do. Any attempt to discipline the child will result in a lawsuit. Just about anything the school does to try and correct the behavior will result in a lawsuit.
So, the police are called for everything as a legal buffer.
In fact, this will probably result in a lawsuit because the child was embarrassed in school.
i have friends who teach. The battle against cell phones and against texting is never ending.
UGLY! Elsewhere, they use an acronym: ‘SMS’. Better, and not verbed!
If this kind of stuff happens to you and your children you have only yourselves to blame.
Until a couple of decades ago, students passed notes around in classrooms. I don’t recall any of them being arrested and charged. Anywhere. Ever. Whacked by a yardstick, maybe; but not arrested.
