Plains, GA (WALB) - The recent recall has hit the peanut industry so hard that even the former first family is affected.

Peanut farmers and companies were looking forward to a boost in sales when the economy took a downward spiral.

Consumers usually rely on peanut butter as a cheap source of protein.

But the salmonella outbreak has made it extremely hard for even Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter to make money of their peanut crop.

"We still grow peanuts on our farm," said the for First Lady. "And my heart goes out to peanut farmers because I know in our farm if it weren't for our pine trees, and thank goodness we've planted them all along, I don't know how we would make a living."

Last month peanut butter sales dropped more than 20% nationwide.

If the Carters are so hard up for cash I have the perfect idea for them. Turn that farm into a nursing home for corrupt & senile politicians. Murtha could go first & check it out. Plenty would follow if I had my input. Just think of all the cash they would bring in. Old Jimmy would be with all his cronies. He could bore them to death and stay put on the farm instead of making a fool of himself all over the world.

Corrupt and senile politicians already have a home. It’s called the Capitol Building.

Most folks would not know what fat-lighter is. A real fat-lighter stump will smell so strong of oil that you can smell it long before you see it. And, most folks have NO idea how hot that stuff burns. You do not want to accidentally load a fireplace or grill with fat-lighter.

People have no idea how stupid the rules are that farmers follow. It is far from a straight-forward business. Many years they are paid good money to do nothing — to plant no crops.
