CBS: ‘Down and Dirty’ Republicans Call for Burris to Resign
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/kyle-drennen/2009/02/17/cbs-down-dirty-republicans-call-burris-resign ^

On Monday’s CBS Evening News, correspondent Nancy Cordes reported on perjury allegations against Illinois Senator Roland Burris and calls for his resignation: "Burris admits he did much more than just talk to one person, in fact, he says he talked to four other people with close connections and took three phone calls from the ex-governor's brother about raising money. In the down and dirty world of Illinois politics, some Republicans are calling on him to resign."

In addition to bashing Illinois Republicans, Cordes’s report featured CBS legal analyst Andrew Cohen, who argued: "From a purely legal point of view, it is not a strong perjury case. All it does is suggest that Mr. Burris was a little bit more involved in all of this than he initially claimed to be."

MorOns.org might say, “Come on! It’s only about money. That’s his private business. Everybody does it!”

They’re not asking that he resign because he talked to people. It’s because he talked to them and then lied under oath that he talked to them.

It’s called perjury. It’s an Honesty Thing, CBS wouldn’t understand.

Couldn't Scooter Libby say the same thing?

Question for the inanestream media: If Burris didn’t give Blago any money, how did he get picked?

Um...Illinois politics is “down and dirty.” I only wish the Republicans learned to play that way once in a while.

I demand a full investigation:

Burris was receiving $5,000/m from Loop Enterprises for services rendered (?).

Loop is run by Jim Reynolds (BO’s best friend) and his BIL Craig Robinson.

Loop was involved with Philadelphia’s Mayor Street in pay for play a couple of years ago.

No offense against Burris but Blago is insane. Im surprised they even entertained his nomination. I think Burris is telling the truth. But people are tiring of this scandalous mess.

The local news had some Dems that were not real happy with Roland, so we may see some “bipartisanship” to oust the idiot.

Newsbusters is overreacting, and their headline is deceptive. We go on and on about Chicago being cutthroat and crooked, and the CBS article characterizes Chicago politics, NOT Republicans.

Having said that, I’d love it if Republicans were actually able to get down and dirty instead of trying to be presentable at the country club.

This liar should resign. He was sworn in after false testimony. But few Democrats do it. If he were a Republican, there would be huge cries for his resignation.

No person who valued their reputation over ambition would accept an appointment from a disgraced joke like Blago. Burris is either crooked or blinded by his hunger for power. I’m guessing both.

If Burris quits and we have a special election, who should the Republicans nominate? I think that Rep. Shimkus or Rep. Roskam could win.

Burris is either crooked or blinded by his hunger for power.

Anyone who has erected this modest structure has absolutely no lack of ego! FYI: This was BEFORE he became a US Senator!

Oh, Blago was perfectly capable of picking Burris just to piss people off.

Why would the (R)s want this idiot out. He’s a great poster for what’s wrong with Dems.

I think Burris is telling the truth.

Which time, about which version, and how much of it?

Well, here in Illinois it’s not a Democrat problem, it’s a State government problem. Don’t forget, when Blago goes to jail he might end up sharing a cell with his Republican predecessor.
