“If you are embarrassed by the “silly” notions of the Bible, then perhaps your faith is of and in this world.”

It’s not the Bible that’s silly; it’s clinging to a literalist interpretation of a passage as the evidence from the sciences mounts that such an interpretation is incorrect.

Although it is refreshing to see Sola Scriptura Protestants dust off the writings of the Church Fathers to bolster their disintegrating arguments...

There is no need to consult the writings of the Church fathers, unless old-earth compromisers bring them up. The Bible says God created the heavens, the earth, and everthing in it in six days. If you want to pick and choose which parts of God’s word you believe an which parts you don’t, that is your business. But don’t pretend your theological swiss cheese comes from the Bible.
