Finance Minister Nakagawa resigns over strange behavior at G7 press conference
Finance Minister Shoichi Nakagawa tendered his resignation Tuesday to take responsibility for his abnormal behavior at a news conference following a recent meeting of the Group of Seven finance ministers and central bank governors in Rome in which he appeared drunk.
Earlier in the day, Nakagawa, who doubles as state minister for financial services that oversees financial institutions, had told a news conference that he would resign after the fiscal 2009 state budget draft and relevant laws clear the House of Representatives.
He made the decision for fear that if he stayed at his posts, it would adversely affect Diet deliberations on the state budget, as opposition parties threatened to pass a censure motion against him at the House of Councillors.
Opposition parties and other critics accused Nakagawa of failing to speak clearly and showing abnormal behavior during the news conference in Rome, alleging he was drunk, which the minister denied.

Ping!
I only had two Sullies! (double shot of grey goose and a splash of water)
If I had to attend one of those wing-dings, I’d get drunk, too!
And a water back, Bub !
Think maybe he did it on purpose? I saw the GDP numbers yesterday - yikes - I wouldn’t want to stick around either.
