I am not certain that is conservatism.

How about:

1. Don’t spend money you don’t have.
2. Govern as little as possible.
3. Push goverance to the lowest, most local, practical level possible.

“Mark invented, yes invented, the term “capitalism” in order to marginalize traditional concepts of government since he could say that the “capitalists” are merely defenders of great seats of wealth. He had to have a bad guy to foist a giant scheme on his readers.”

As it always is, I suppose, artists would have no appreciation of light if not for darkness. The conversation of western civilation between Tolkeinn and CS Lewis was always interesting to me - the notion of the “light passing” and the constant guard required from keeping off the darkness of the constant evil lurking...their conversations through their comradeship and in their works was always brilliant...I think they masterfully captured very similar conversation witout the burden of politics and somehow imbuing the discussion with the very prescription context of “modern people are dwarfs on the shoulders of giants” that included civilization, religion and the growing popularity of Jungian symbolism...THOSE were interesting times...I can’t think who today is their peer...but the conversation of Western Civilization always leads me there...probably because of the sheer magnitude and range of their discussions...

Have a pleasant holiday...

Weren’t they in there? I like this list, too;

I am a conservative.

I believe in the sovereignty and security of this one nation, under God.

I believe in the sanctity of life and that life begins at conception.

I believe in marriage between one man and one woman.

I believe that all children in our school systems should be educated in English and taught the civic duties and responsibilities of citizenship and patriotism.

I believe that we have the responsibility and obligation to control our borders and determine who is allowed to live and work in our country.

I believe in private property rights and that the death tax should be killed.

I believe government economic policies should reward those who build business or save and invest their money.

I believe in the right to bear arms and the right of self defense.

I believe in rugged individualism and that no one owes me anything just because I live and breathe.

I believe we should all practice charity in some form or fashion, especially to those who are suffering and least fortunate. But charity must be voluntary and spring from a spirit of altruism and love for your neighbor.

I believe that imposed systems of wealth redistribution destroy families, produce a culture of dependence and hurt everyone...

Finally, I believe there is room to acknowledge the role of our Creator in public life as stated in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. -— Lt. Colonel Bill Russell (USAR Retired)
