Why don’t they just create the “American Foreign Legion”.

Why not indeed? After all, right now, a lot of Visas are literally allocated by Lottery and most of the rest go to “family reunification” purposes.

If this were to be expanded, I would volunteer in a heartbeat.

I have always thought that would be a great idea. It works really well for France, and has done for nearly 200 years.

You mean the American Legion of Foreigners (ALF), right?

It worked OK for the French and British. I seem to recall that the Hessian mercenaries used in the American revolution were exemplary - NOT!

My father-in-law became a US citizen in much this manner circa WWII.

He served the duration of the war, and then some, with mutiple tours in Europe and Korea.

What a great idea. Have a large armed force willing to do anything the president says regardless of constitutionality. Want to send in the military to stop domestic protests, send in the foreign legion. They won't hesitate to shoot US citizens in the US.

“Why don’t they just create the “American Foreign Legion”.

That would be better. You have to complete an entire hitch in the French Foreign Legion before you get French citizenship.

We did have a program like this in the 1950s, but President Eisenhower closed it.

Good idea - an American Foreign Legion. And no need to provide citizenship.

So now US citizenship is for sale, most of them to the types of people we would be better without.
