My question is, “Would a significant portion of those voters have NOT voted at all, or voted GOP, if Hillary were the candidate?” An unscientific poll of my college students says they would have voted Dem anyway. (Because of McCain?? or issues?)
Most likely they would have. But nationwide, a conservative(meaning, not McShame) vs Hillary would’ve been a wipeout.
Let me think: A party going for a third straight presidential win, where the incumbent president has sustained disapproval, AND a financial panic the likes of which had not been seen since 1987 if not 1907 AND the evaporation of at least 4 trillion dollars in paper wealth in the months leading up to the election.
That party's candidate will lose every time. If we weren't so polarized as a nation, our party would have lost by more.
interesting what if. I think the Messiah college worshipers would have sat out the election. Hillary would have still carried the youth, but they would not have flocked to the polls in great numbers. NV, CO, VA, IN, and NC would be won by McCain. The election would be fought in OH and FL. McCain would not have picked Palin as Veep. Instead, Pawlenty would have been his running mate. With the financial crisis, Hillary would have won OH by double digits and clinched the White House. That's my take on the scenerio.
