No Stimulus Without Burris

A twist of this story is that while Senate Democrats initially tried to fight Rod Blagojevich's appointment of Roland Burris, they needed Burris' vote to pass the $789 billion economic stimulus package with a filibuster-proof minimum threshhold of 60 votes. As it was, the Democrats needed to call Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown back to Washington from Brown's home state, where he was attending his mother's wake, of all things. The next option would have been to try to pull Teddy Kennedy from his sick bed.

In other words, Rod Blagojevich apparently was one of the key actors for passage of the economic stimulus package. Is that ironic, or what?

And now Burris is in hot water, and will be investigated. If the worst happens and Burris resigns from the Senate, he already did his job by helping Porkulus pass. How convenient.

They could have sent Jack Daniels to get him.

The thing is, he amended his statement on Feb. 4, but no one found out about it until after the day after the stimulus passed. Craven and evil, if you ask me.

This is incorrect. Since Franken/Coleman is not seated, if Burris was not appointed, the requisite number of Senators required for cloture is 59.

It’s just great, isn’t it, that the worst travesty of anti-Constitutional pork in the history of the nation is being enacted into law by the flakiest and least qualified POS’ imaginable. /s

Yes, is that not fantastic. And now Burris is probably a perjurer too. And I might add one more thing - none of these POS’s have even read the bill they just shoved down America’s throat.

The rule is three fifths of all senators seated, with rounding up.

We live in a society that rules only apply to those not in power.

It sucks.

Two words - Magna Carta. One of the greatest documents ever produced by the Western world. Now you know why.

Jack Daniels already got him, or at least his kidneys.

Even better - the travfesty required a number of appointed, not elected senators, to pass it.

How much pork in the bill goes to IL?
I feel like Blago, Reid, Burris, & possibly Rahm probably set the whole thing up. The only way to get another Dem in there that fast was to have Blago appoint him/her and Reid have to accept him/her. So the phony big stink about not accepting Blago’s appt since they are pretending they care that Blago is corrupt but then they relent and let him in. Then Burris quietly amends his statement but hangs around long enough to vote on porkulus. Anybody else have any thoughts on that scenario?
