Pro-gay-marriage movement looks to 'Obamify'

Joe Garofoli, Chronicle Staff Writer Sunday, February 15, 2009

As gay marriage supporters prepare for a noon demonstration Monday in Sacramento, a growing number are planning their next ballot campaign. Their new strategy: "Obamify" the gay marriage movement.

Obamification, organizers say, is more than just connecting supporters through social networking sites such as Facebook and building mile-long e-mail lists.

It would involve pairing new media technology with old-fashioned, door-to-door outreach - two tactics that were not used well in the unsuccessful opposition to Proposition 8 in November, according to a report by Marriage Equality USA, an Oakland-based organization that supports gay marriage.

Or, on the other hand, they simply couldn’t overcome the obvious widespread opposition to their pet cause. Those that voted for it once are certainly likely to vote for it again, with or without Obama tactics.

By the way, how are those Obama tactics working out in DC right about now?

Republicans could learn a lot from the way the Obama campaign operated last time around. The Dems ran the better Internet and ground campaigns, no doubt about it.

I bet they will be especially targeting the people of color that voted against homosexual marriage. They will be re-educated.

We need to make sure that the subject is framed in terms that people can understand... not that homosexuality/homosexual marriage is a sin, but that it purposefully promotes families where one parent is not involved- either the mom or the dad. Why would anyone want children to be purposefully mom-less or dad-less? THAT should be our tactic.

Why are they ashamed to call it what it is. Homosexual marriage. What’s with the “gay” garbage?

The only thing they’re going to do is get Obama’d in the pooper.

Gay is a “bigger tent” collective power word. Homophobia is also such word open to various dangerous phobia rhetoric in favor of any homogeneity, including incest, racism, nazism, flesh and color preferences.

Sexual orientation is also a power word meant to encompass rapists.

Words count, the fools don’t care.

Maybe next time they'll learn not to run an old grumpy liberal RINO as their candidate.
