I'm going to Nags Head, North Carolina next August. There are about 25 of us going - it's going to be a big event. My niece is getting married on the beach and we have 2 big houses rented.
This has been planned since early last Spring.
I think NC went blue this last election. Guess all the New England libs have been invading this beautiful state.
But I have confidence in that the Southern by the grace of God natives will rise up again.

I track all my spending on MS Money. Down to the last cent for sales tax and when I get my utility bills, I break that down - let’s me see all the fees, surcharges, taxes and all that the government takes from me in a somewhat stealth manner.

Just to add to the discussion, as you've asked, I posted something a while back on this same topic:
Tax Reduction Strategies As for W4 exemptions, I discussed this with my accountant this year, and he told me that for every exemption, you get approx $23 more takehome per pay period. I bumped mine up and saw about half that. I get paid weekly, though. This might make a difference.
I heard somewhere that no red flags are raised at the IRS until you get into the 11 range.
You are LEGALLY ENTITLED to having less withholding if you got a refund in the previous year. Remember that.

I have posted the formula on other threads:
Additional exemptions = Your refund / $23 / number of pay periods per year
However, like I said, I saw about $12 per exemption on my weekly pay.
Folks, if you do this, SAVE SOME MONEY for next April so you’re not in a pinch.

You people are pikers! Think like a leftist. Get laid off. Sweet! You are now set to get 1 year of unemployment. Two fellows I know are happily living on unemployment. When that runs out, food stamps I guess. Now that Obama has made welfare cool the puny tax savings outlined by rightwingers are not going to do near as much to harm the finances as the ever growing use of programs by the left, as well as legitimately unemployed who are caught in the Obama depression.

Here are the
tax withholding tables (beginning on page 38) for 2009.
I was just talking with my son yesterday about these tax tables. He had been offered a job from a temp agency which would pay him about $2 more/hour. He turned it down because he couldn't be sure how long the job would last. He's making pretty good money now, as is his fiancee, and he's got some senority at his present job. I pointed out to him just by getting married the amount that is taken from your check is almost half that for single workers. He and his fiancee have been together for 6 years. It's time they got married!

"Folks, if you do this, SAVE SOME MONEY for next April so youre not in a pinch." My theory is if you change the withholding on your W-4s then you should take all the extra money and put it in a savings/money market account.
Then you earn a bit of interest on it even if you have to pay it back.

lets me see all the fees, surcharges, taxes and all that the government takes from me Out of curiosity, what percentage of income goes to the gov? No need for specifics. I've guessed at 40% but wouldn't be surprised if it's more.

And I have thought about jumping in the cart. When it becomes lucrative enough, I will do just that.

Count me in: welfare, unemployment, grants, deductions, etc. The ratio of workers to looters is what keeps socialism afloat. Time to change the game, and change the numbers.
