States eager to start spending stimulus money

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (Reuters) – The lightly traveled stretch of road on the outskirts of a small Midwestern city may look like a minor two-lane street.

But local officials see the rutted road as a prime candidate for a $2.5 million face-lift, paid for by the federal government.

Council Bluffs, Iowa, is one of hundreds of U.S. communities eager to tap into an expected flood of money from the economic stimulus bill meant to combat the recession.

"It is going to create a lot of jobs, immediate jobs, right now," said Council Bluffs Mayor Tom Hanafan, who met with city planners and business leaders to craft $229 million in project proposals for the community of about 62,000.

On Friday, the U.S. Congress passed a compromise version of a $789 billion stimulus bill aimed at reviving the reeling U.S. economy. President Barack Obama is due to sign the measure on Tuesday.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is aimed at reversing a deep recession in part by putting people to work. Infrastructure funds -- estimated at about $120 billion -- are earmarked for construction projects, including highways and bridges, transit systems and airports.

"This is the heart and center of the economy -- construction -- so it is important to get some of those jobs there," said Dean Baker, co-director at the Center for Economic and Policy Research consulting firm in Washington.

And when the make-work FDR-style money is gone? Then what? The economy has not been restored, certainly not a CAPITALIST economy because socialistic make-work is not permanent.

Remember that socialism always fails...because it cannot pay for itself. Socialists fail when they run out of some else's money.....

How is this going to hire millions of new workers? And even if they overstaffed the positions, where is the road machinery. And after the money runs out, will layoff happen since the State cannot support this additional work force on existing tax structure. OH! I get it now. More taxes. Or better still, back to Washington for - you got it.

So they made their list AFTER the stimulus bill was in the pipeline, asking for things they want, not need. And that's about $3,700 for each person in the city. Where do they think the money really comes from?

Then what?

We all know the answer to that. Pelosi and Obama are dropping loud hints of coming back for another trillion if his one doesn't "work."

This bill is unconstitutional. If Congress had even THOUGHT of passing an abortion limitation bill, the ACLU would already have the complaints filed, the ad campaign ready to hit the streets and they would be on every talk show. If we wait, then the republic is dead.

Part of what little bit of success FDR had in his New Deal was the manufacturing. That is not in this stimulus. How is $30 million to help the Marsh Mouse in San Fransisco going to provide jobs for people? What a few specialty people, but that’s about it.

::::::::::::
If this is true, and from what I have heard, it is, then it is clear they intend to bankrupt our capitalist system which includes the ability of America to borrow money. This gives the Marxists an advantage that a pro-capitalist, American conservative could not come in after them and borrow money to recover the true capitalist economy.

These people are insane with the lust for Marxist power and control and it appears they are willing to do anything to anyone to get and KEEP that power. Just read the neo-Marxist spending bill that these madmen created.

The bill is clearly not about restoring our SELF-SUPPORTING capitalist economy. That is a lie we will continue to hear as Marxist Washington continues to destroy what we have. FDR was a hard socialist too. He did not recover the economy per se, in fact, he hindered its recovery as history clearly shows. Only WW2 did finally recover our capitalist economy through massive manufacturing.
