Michael Crichton got it right in his well-footnoted novel, “State of Fear”. In it the well-funded man-is-causing-global-warming zealots were attempting to shear off ice sheets in the Antarctic and set off tsunamis without regard to potential loss of life in order to “convince” the world that MMGW was real.

”The climate is heating up far faster than scientists had predicted…"

Oh no, we’re doomed even more than I thought!

A week or so ago I picked up a novel, “Mars Life” by Ben Bova. I read the preface where Bova spews his man-is-causing-global-warming-and-we’re-all-going-to-die crap and that is as far as I got. I looked up his website where he proudly refers to himself as Dr Ben Bova and found that he has a masters degree in communications and a PhD in educations—both non-science fields and pretty lightweight. Unfortunately most of the people preaching MMGW have very little in the way of scientific knowledge and even less in ability to think rationally.

This is a real crisis. Better redistribute wealth to underdeveloped nations - and FAST. It’s our only hope!

According to this report the temps are still going up and it’s according to Dr Roy Spencer, the guy Rush loves to quote.

The latest global warming flap is that warmer global temperatures are driving certain species of bird further north. I am really looking forward to seeing wild parrots and other tropical birds in the pine trees of northern Minnesota.

This is a real crisis.

Indeed. Let's add a few trillion more to the national debt to solve it.

There is no Climate Science. Fields isn’t even close to being a scientist regarding the integration of the future weather over the next 100 yrs.

"According to this report the temps are still going up"

That dosn't prove how much is due to CO2 nor if it's really a crisis.

You’re right and Spencer doesn’t make claims either way. In fact when Rush has him on he debunks man made GW. This report was the first I’ve seen on temps as a whole so far this year and it looks like the temps are still going up. I would like to see how much change has occurred though when compared to the computer models used as the primary proof that runaway global warming will kill us all.

The question is what temperature really matters?

Upper atmosphere? Dirt temperature in your favorite field? Ocean temps (quite a few choices here)? Air temp 5 ft off the ground in the woods? Center of the Earth core temp?

Also, it would seem to depend on the day of the year. From what I've seen, there is a difference in surface air temperature trends depending on the season. Just using one average temperature of some giant sum of masses may or not be significant to an individual or a society.

The question is what temperature really matters?

Depends on the season and time of day.

Almost every night when the big thingy that passes overhead in the sky disappears, it feels colder to me.

The next time that big thingy reappears, it feels warmer.

I think there is a relationship that we don't yet understand.

In Western PA, it almost always gets colder in the winter and warmer in the summer.

It might have something to do with the angle and distance from that big thingy in the sky, but I'm not sure.

Man made global warming...what arrogance.

This will do for your research grant application.

The last sentence from the link: "Neither Spencer nor Christy receives any research support or funding from oil, coal or industrial companies or organizations, or from any private or special interest groups. All of their climate research funding comes from state and federal grants or contracts."

We cannot assume that the state and federal grants DO NOT come without bias or a predetermined outcome any more than funding from any other of the other sources might have. Any climate studies funded by NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS), headed by James Hansen, is likely to be biased.

Recently, MMGW skeptic Steven McIntire, analyzing a history of global temperatures from 1900 to the present maintained by NASA, found that NASA's figures from 2000 to 2007 differed from those presented by GISS. He found that GISS had added in a 0.15 degree C "adjustment" to temperatures measured from 2000 to the present in an attempt to "prove" that MMGW was happening. See the article for more details.
