All we can do is wait and see if Steele is going to walk the walk of Conservatism. We Conservatives need to promote Conservatives in their campaigns.

I appreciate Steele's comments but we need leadership and we need a coalition in Washington that is STRONG, AND OPENLY OPPOSED TO THE RADICALISM AND DECEIT OF THE LEFT. When that day comes, I will reconsider rejoining the Repub party.

Well, I like this better than the whiney “we lost our way.” This statement by Steele has TEETH in it. This is the kind of spice that is MISSING from the GOP.

It's a start. The first step for an addict is to acknowledge he has a problem.
That said, not sure if it means anything at this point since fair elections are now history.

I am almost convinced that the Republican party is a dead duck. My view is lets all quit the party join the democrats and put our candidates in through them.
Can you imagine the Democrats faced with all those ex Republicans coming in and taking their party from them?

Michael...
You can start by running the place like a Corleone...
Make the 3 traitors an offer they can't refuse...
that offer is here $25 bucks and a Limo to DNC headquarters, leave defect and don't let the door hit you in the @$$.
It is time to purge these RINO &@$+@&rD$ once and for all...
There I feel better now...

Good for him!
You can't fix a problem if you do not acknowledge it's existence.
He might be just the man to slap some sense into the republicans who have been running amok the last eight years.

Us meaning the GOP, of course. I appreciate his willingness to beat himself up in the name of regaining the publics trust, but, er, is the man of Steele being perhaps a bit too self-deprecating here? He's telling the truth -- the GOP squandered its political capital by becoming a party of soundbites and gotcha on the one hand, and a party of trying to avoid seeming "mean" on the other.
Priciples? Real leaders? An intellectually honest and coherent platform? Nope -- we gave them all up.

Michael Steele: "You have no reason to trust us at this point" Admitting the problem is only the start of the healing process. The GOP has a long way to go to make up ground lost throughout the first half of the decade. The house and most of the Senators took the first step, and Steele took the second. 2 steps isn't enough to discern definite direction but it's a start.

Dear Mr. Steele,
Having voted Republican all for all 30+ years of my adult life and having worked in numerous elections at the local, county, state and national level, I feel I am qualified to say one or two things about the state of the Republican Party . . .
You suck.
Unfortunately, you are currently the only game in town. Please do not be so foolish as to assume that privilege for long. If you do not reform ASAP, you will permanently lose your base.
We are America. We are the ones that go to work, innovate, save, serve in the armed forces and pay the onerous taxes that our national fifth column endlessly enacts. We are rapidly approaching a limit to our good will and faith in the leadership this country offers and we will not tolerate continued forbearance with people like Specter, Snowe and Collins.
We plead with you. We beg you. We appeal to the better angles of your nature . . .
Bring us change we can believe in - bring back the unashamed defense of America, our Constitution and the ideals of liberty and freedom that we all are longing for.
At all costs, do NOT repackage some lame flock of speech that touts Americanism and delivers compromise and preserves big government and the tyranny it brings.
These times and these lines may be your last warnings. Please consult the word and works of our Founders for the guidance you will need in these most perilous times.
As loyal Americans, we plead with you and pray for wisdom as you approach your duties. The blood and loyalty of all true Americans goes with you. We pray that you serve this generation - and all of those that have gone before - with the same clarity, passion and zeal that inspired men (and women) to lay down their lives.
With all of my sincerest wishes,
Working Class Filth
