TWO NSW firefighters have been injured while battling bushfires in Victoria's Gippsland region, while fire victims launch legal action against the State Government and a power company.

A spokeswoman for the Country Fire Authority (CPA) said the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) men suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries when a tree fell on them while fighting fires in Coopers Creek late on Saturday night.

The type of injuries are unknown.

Sixty specialist firefighters from the United States will arrive in Melbourne this morning, adding to the 520 interstate firefighters and 120 specialist New Zealand firefighters already in Victoria.

Twelve fires are still burning throughout the state, but firefighters have been helped by cooler conditions.

As of Saturday night the death toll stood at 181 with more than 1800 houses destroyed and 395,000 hectares of land burnt.

Saturday night firefighters carried out 600 hectares of fuel reduction at Kinglake West.

The spokeswoman said residents could expect a lot of smoke in the area as a result of that, but should not be alarmed.

The Maroondah/Yarra and the Yea/Murrindini fires have - renamed the Kinglake Murrindini-Complex - is now 670 kilometres long, which is smaller than the 10,000 kilometres previously thought.

Well, yeah... quite a bit smaller. A 10,000 kilometre fire would stretch from Victoria to somewhere between Hawaii and California...

(1) There's no evidence he's a Moslem at this point - what evidence there is suggests it's unlikely.

(2) He's safely in police custody.

(3) He's not accused of lighting the particular fire that burned their houses anyway.

The picture is of a different suspect - not the man in custody. They haven’t found the guy in the picture yet - he should hope the police get him before anybody else does.
