Virtually all of the lakes "damaged" by acid rain were located in areas with granite rock.

If you don't regularly restock them they are naturally acidic enough to prevent fish reproduction.

I thought it absolutely amazing that New Englanders appeared to be unaware of the existence of limestone and fish-hatcheries, but they were!

Correct. I remember crop dusters used to drop lime in the lakes.
