Social Security has only been in existence for 74 years.

True but a person born more than 74 years ago can have a social security number. My Great grandmother had an SS number and she was born in 1900. More important is the fact that SS numbers aren't recycled. In fact there has been talk of adding another digit due to the fact that we'll run out of numbers.

Yes, I know because you can have nine-hundred and ninety-nine million, nine-hundred and ninety-nine thousand, nine-hundred and ninety-nine, or 1 billion numbers - 1.
