Former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has a new job, but it appears he's going to miss the first day of training.
His lawyers on Thursday filed an emergency request seeking approval for him to travel to Dallas for training Friday morning. Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner said he'll hold a hearing - more than a week later, on Feb. 24.
...
Kilpatrick, who was freed Feb. 3, needs to pay off $1 million in restitution to the city of Detroit. He had been hired by Covisint, a subsidiary of Detroit-based software company Compuware Corp., lawyer James Thomas told The Detroit News.

Now, why would a software company hire him, I wonder?

I’m sure it is because of his software writing expertise.

"so he can use his contacts for dodgy dealing " You nailed it! And right on time too, since he will be selling computerized health care records software (in the Porkulus) to government. He can just pick up the phone and call his Dem buddies who control that money. Sure he has a record, but he has the CONTACTS.

I know we've been screaming that the government has no place dictating what private business should do, but I wonder if this isn't a bad PR move on behalf of Karmanos, at least with those of us in Michigan who are fairly aware of the Kwame mess.

I left Michigan for the great Republic of Texas a few years back - I however was watching this whole mess at my brothers for the 2 weeks I was there and during one of the news programs my brother looked at me and said - “the really sad part of all this is that if he ran for reelection tomorrow he would win in a landslide”. Sad isn’t it!
And why does he only have to pay back 1 million when he spent something like 8 million of the city’s money?
To: finallyatexan
He owes a ton of money to his attorneys, he owes a ton of money in restitution to the city and he just moved into a $3,000 per month house in Texas. Oh, and his mom just spent $15,000 to fly him and his family to Texas in a private jet.
Where the hell is all this money coming from?????????

What deals - I read your link, and unless Detroit paid for the building and let it to Compuware for $1/yr, I don’t get it.
