BTW, who's in charge there at the Commerce Dept., now that Judd Gregg turned down the Secretary appointment?

Unless the former Cabinet Secretary is retained (or chooses to remain) pending confirmation of the next one, a deputy or other high-ranking official of the prior administration will usually remain until the confirmation. At present, Republican Otto Wolff (Chief Financial Officer of Commerce under Dubya) is the acting Secretary of Commerce. He’s held the position since Jan 20th.
