If the government is going to invite someone in to say a prayer, they should be able to pray whatever they want.

We get rightly angry when religious conservatives are denied a chance to pray as they wish at a government sponsered event, becuase it is not the government’s job to decide what is and is not a valid religious belief.

That works the other way also. The government shouldn’t be declaring a religious belief to be “too liberal” either.

Well, OK ... and by the same token, if somebody is invited in to say a prayer, they should just say the prayer, and leave the politics to the politicians.

Mr. Jones apparently could not limit himself to pastoral duties. He was out of line.
