A missing 5-year-old Florida girl was most likely abducted from her home in rural Florida, police said Wednesday.
Haleigh Cummings, 5, went missing Monday night from her home near Orlando, police said.
Haleigh Cummings has been missing since 3 a.m. Tuesday, when her father's girlfriend called 911 to say the child had vanished from her Putnam County home.
"There's no longer any reason to believe that the child simply wandered outside," said Putnam County Sheriff's Office Maj. Gary Bowling.
The police must "assume abduction," he said.
"All the answers to why you'd want to take a 5-year-old are ugly," Bowling said.
Police have no official suspects, but are treating everyone they interview as one.
"All the world's a suspect" now, Bowling said.
A nationwide Amber Alert says the girl was last seen wearing a pink shirt and underwear. Police plan to use infrared aviation technology after dark Wednesday in their search.
"She's a 5-year-old child, and she's afraid of the dark," Bowling said.
On Monday night, Ronald Cummings' girlfriend, 17-year-old Misty Croslin, was watching Haleigh and her 4-year-old brother, police said.
Croslin put Haleigh to bed at 8 p.m. and then went to bed herself at 10 p.m., they said. Croslin told police she woke up at 3 a.m. and discovered Haleigh missing.
Croslin then called 911 and told a dispatcher that she found a brick on the floor of the family's double-wide trailer, according to CNN affiliate WJXT-TV.
Dispatch: OK. All right, you said your back door was wide open?
Caller: Yes, with a brick. Like, there was a brick on the floor. Like, when I went to sleep the door was not like that.
The brick was actually holding open the door to the trailer, Putnam County Sheriff's Office Lt. Johnny Greenwood told CNN.

Prayers up for this child!
Which local pedophile got released recently?
Father’s girlfriend, eh?
Taken by her mother, maybe?
I hate these stories. Prayers for her safe and speedy return.
The girlfriend is a child, too. ugh.
I read mother was in Georgia at the time, but who knows?
Lord God, please bring this precious child home and let not one hair on her head be harmed. Make haste to help her, Dear Lord. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
If they had executed all the local pedophiles like they should have, they wouldn’t have to be investigating all 44 of them.
Amen and amen. Lord have mercy.
Of the 4,300 child molesters released, approximately 3.3% were rearrested within three years for another sex offense against a child.
Only one out of seven inmates reported that their child victim was a stranger.
About half of the convicted offenders had a relationship with the child, either through friends or family.
Yes, I do read statistics.
I know that over 90% of child sex offenders re-offend. And those are the ones we know about.
Do you read the Bible? It says rapists should be put to death. Maybe God was on to something.
That's not what the Justice Dept's statistics say. Where's your link?
And we don't live under the law anymore but under grace.
Btw, no one knows who took the little girl yet but you’re ready to hang anyone. Nice. How about finding her first.
Sex offenders and pedophiles are two different things. As a whole, ‘sex offenders’ seems terrible and yet my son was 14 when he was put on the registry for 15 years for mooning a group of kids (ages 12-14) at the neighbors. Yeah it was a stupid thing to do and yeah, 14 year old boys do stupid stuff so a 15 year sentence seems a little harsh to me. The 12 year old neighbor (girl) was also mooning everyone and yet wasn’t charged with anything.
So should something like this happen around here, they would probably look at my son as being a ‘local registered sex offender’. Is he a threat to a 5 year old or going to kidnap anyone, or molest anyone? Not bloody likely. So execution seems just a little harsh.
Besides, if Haleigh’s dad is over 21, authorities might well be looking at his own sex offender status, since his gf is only 17. Statutory rape, you know. Execute him too.
I am happy to make a difference between a “sex offender” and a “child molester.”
My desire for the death penalty is for “child molesters.” Not a guy who urinates in public, moons somebody, or has a 16 year old girlfriend.
Execution is not at all called for in those cases.
Where is your link to your statistics?
“In Canada, Hanson and colleagues57 used two control groups of untreated convicted child molesters in a treatment effectiveness study. Group 1, made up of 31 untreated offenders who were released from prison between 1958 and 1965, had a 48% rate of reconvictions for sexual or violent offenses. Group 2, made up of 60 untreated offenders released between 1965 and 1973, had a 33% reconviction rate. The length of the follow-up period varied according to when offenders were released, but 93% were followed for 15 years or more. The authors noted that the greatest risk period appeared to be the first 5 to 10 years after release from incarceration, but that 23% of the recidivists in their sample were reconvicted more than 10 years after they were released.”
Add to this lovely information the fact that according the the DOJ, “The vast majority of sex offenses are never reported. For instance, the National Women’s Study surveyed a representative sample of over 4,000 adult women in the United States . Three hundred forty-one (8.5%) of these women were victims of at least one rape prior to the age of 18; however, only 11.9% of these women reported the rape to authorities (Hanson et al., 1990). And it must be remembered, of the few offenses reported, an even smaller number result in convictions.”
and you have an awful lot of child molestation going on.
As for living under grace, there is NO GRACE in letting children be sexually tortured. MERCY would be putting the molesters to death so the children could have a better chance of growing up, and growing up sane.
I am not ready to “hang anyone.” I am ready to hang duly convicted child rapists.
US Dept of Justice.

Most victims know the attacker.
As for living under grace, there is NO GRACE in letting children be sexually tortured.
Luckily for the human race, you aren't God.
