NEW YORK (AFP) US federal prosecutors on Wednesday indicted an alleged New York mafia boss dubbed "Jackie the Nose" in the murder of a man he believed to be a police informant.
John D'Amico, alleged capo of the Gambino organized crime family, was indicted along with associate Joseph Watts in the 1989 murder, the FBI and US attorney's office said.
According to the indictment, the two defendants carried out orders from then Gambino boss John Gotti to kill a man who they "believed was serving as a federal government witness."
"One of the purposes of the Gambino crime family is to identify and kill individuals suspected of providing information about the family to law enforcement," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
D'Amico, 72, is also charged with racketeering conspiracy involving murder, extortion, witness tampering, obstruction of justice and gambling.

A 1989 murder and the guy goes to trial twenty years later. Par for the course for the FBI. Actually, I am surprised he didn’t die of old age.
