SYDNEY (AP) - Kangaroo corpses lay scattered by the roadsides while wombats that survived the wildfire's onslaught emerged from their underground burrows to find blackened earth and nothing to eat.
Wildlife rescue officials on Wednesday worked frantically to help the animals that made it through Australia's worst-ever wildfires but they said millions of animals likely perished in the inferno.

Who and what are rabid environmentalists going to blame for this?

Bless their little, furry hearts. :( Sad all the way ‘round. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone there.

What?
So many innocent animals have never before been lost in such a calamity. Fires never before ravaged ... before man. In the past, the animals intervened with nature and fought the fire, and rescued the sick (animals) and fed the hungry (animals) and relocated the homeless (animals). But now that man has brought his evil invention - fire, the animals are suddenly imperiled.
Oh the (in)humanity.

Sad Indeed. Koalas have absolutely no chance of moving out of the fires path.
Horrible.

We have the same problem in the American West that plagues the Australians. We have the Sierra Club and the other so called environment groups that stop the Forest Service from practicing good forest management. Millions of animals are killed in forest fires in the Unites States every year. Where's PETA? I guess it's okay if it's not for food.

All I need now is a plane ticket and some BBQ sauce. Yum.The absolute worst characteristic of many conservatives is their cavalier attitude toward compassion for the creatures who share this planet with us, even in the face of great tragedy.
To millions of voters, the central quality of conservatism is cold-heartedness.

Koala bears had no chance at all.....They need to hang the arsonists in the town squares and set them on fire!

Firefighter David Tree shares his water with the koala at Mirboo North in Victoria's Gippsland region. The koala actuall reached out and held David's hand. The koala was later rescued and was nicknamed 'Sam' before she was discovered to be a female.
David Tree later visited 'Sam' at the wildlife sanctuary.
'Sam' with her bandaged feet.

Link to Google Earth forum and see koala bear and other pics of the fire. Then click the bottom of the second post at "attachments" for an overlay of the fires on GE (must have google earth installed).
