I can't help but think that, besides the entire CRA/Low Income housing/FNMA/FHLMC sell-off (as a banker of 33 years I can assure you this happened), the (accelerated) spectulative run up in oil/gasoline prices (as in Soros controlled hedge funds)in early 2008 were something of a trigger to the collapsing economy.

I believe you are correct. It was a combination of those things.
