America was not even a country until at least 1781 (Battle of Yorktown)...

I believe it would be around 1789. I don’t think we had a real working government until then. I could be wrong.

Another thing to remember......the United States govrenment did not buy slaves, the United States government did not own slaves, the United States government did not sell slaves. Other countries bought slaves from African tribal leaders. Other countries brought slaves to this country. Individuals bought slaves. If you can find them, go after them. Time to let go of this one, it’s crazy.
