The weakness this shows is beyond belief. I watched The Four Feathers this past weekend. The 1939 British version, not the politically corrected 2002 film. The Britain in that film would be unrecognizable today. Heck, even a Disney film like Mary Poppins showed a circa-1910 England that was strong, confident, unbowed.

They once said the sun never sets on the British Empire. Today, the British nation is in permanent eclipse.

IIRC in that movie Dick Van Dyke played a small second role as an extremely old banker. One of the things he said was: "If the banks fall, England falls!" (as he toppled over).

Obviously there have been a lot of banks falling lately.
