‘Chav’ is a slang term for Britain’s underclass who are said to exist primarily on benefits and the proceeds of crime.
‘Uber’ which is of course, German for ‘super’ denotes that these are even more ‘chavvy’ than average.....

Thanks for the wikis. Like so much underworld slang (and theatre and homosexual slang as well) this word has its origins in Gypsy. For the PC, that's Romany, an Indic language related to Sanscrit.

"Shiv" for knife, "punch" from the word for five fingers, or five juices.

The meaning of "super" is entirely derived from Nietzsche's coinage of the "Übermensch", which is correctly rendered as the "Overman", and N. meant to indicate something like "Transcendent Man", but that was lost on us.

Of course, "über" is cognate to "over", and all the "über-" words in my Harrap's Concise German correspond to it in meaning. E.g. "übernachst" = "over next" (nextdoor) ; "übergehen" = "to go over" ( to the enemy ) ; "über schneiden" = "over cut" ( intersect ) usw.
