FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UNRWA LIFTS SUSPENSION OF AID IMPORTS INTO GAZA
PRESS STATEMENT BY CHRISTOPHER GUNNESS UNRWA SPOKESPERSON

The Hamas authorities in Gaza have returned to the UNRWA warehouses in Gaza
City and Rafah all of the aid supplies confiscated on 03 and 05 February.
UNRWA will now lift the suspension on the import of its humanitarian
supplies into Gaza, which went into effect on 05 February.

However, the Agency's food distribution operation to 900,000 refugees
continues to be jeopardized by the decision of the Israeli government to
refuse entry of the three truck loads of nylon pellets for making the
plastic bags in which the food is distributed. The only available bags are
those on the local market.

UNRWA has also been denied approval to bring into Gaza 12 truck loads of
bulk paper to print books, including its human rights textbooks for the
second semester which started two weeks ago. The Agency has also been
prevented from importing 5 trucks of exercise books for some 200,000
children. Sixty per cent of children in UNRWA are without their full
complement of textbooks.

COGAT: Humanitarian effort to Gaza continues

http://www.imra.org.il/story.php3?id=42739

Humanitarian effort to Gaza continues
(Communicated by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories
Spokesman) 9 February, 2009

Kerem Shalom, Karni, Nahal Oz and Erez crossings operated yesterday (Sunday)
enabling humanitarian movements and transfer of humanitarian goods in to
Gaza. Throughout the day, a total of 142 trucks with 3783 tons of supplies
at the request of The World Food Programme, the World Health Organizsation,
and Care. Also, goods for the private and public sectors that included
communications equipment (for the cellular companies) meat and dairy
products, canned food, oil, diapers, reproductive eggs, powdered milk flour,
sugar and rice. Also, 792,000 liters of heavy duty diesel for the Gaza power
station were transferred via the Nahal Oz fuel depot. Karni conveyor
operated and transferred 1848 tons of different types of grain.

Due to two different incidents of organized theft of humanitarian aid by
Hamas terrorists, UNRWA has still not resumed shipping of aid in to Gaza.

Today (Monday), approximately 200 trucks are scheduled to ship goods in to
Gaza via Kerem Shalom and Karni. Also, the Nahal Oz fuel depot is expected
to operate for pumping of fuel.

In the ongoing humanitarian effort, since the unilateral cease fire
(18/1/2009), 77,184 tons of aid and 5,569,908 liters of fuel for the Gaza
power station have been delivered to the Gaza Strip.

The Hamas authorities in Gaza have returned to the UNRWA warehouses in Gaza City and Rafah all of the aid supplies confiscated on 03 and 05 February.

That is, according to UN Authorities... Is there a reliable source that can confirm that assertion?

When the UN is involved, the watchword should be "distrust but verify"...
