WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. "truth commission" should probe Bush administration policies including the promotion of war in Iraq, detainee treatment and wiretapping without a warrant, an influential senator proposed on Monday.

Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, called for the commission as way to heal what he called sharp political divides and to prevent future abuses.

He compared it to other truth commissions, such as one in South Africa that investigated the apartheid era.

"We need to come to a shared understanding of the failures of the recent past," Leahy said in a speech to the Georgetown University law school.

"Rather than vengeance, we need a fair-minded pursuit of what actually happened," he said. "And we do that to make sure it never happens again," Leahy said.

You know, one to investigate how many leaks that POS was responsible for when he was on the Senate Intelligence Committee, what damage they did to the U.S, and who, and how much, those leaks helped. You know, the leaks that eventually forced him OFF the Committee.

Obama wants things to move quickly.....before the people really find out what is going on. The longer this whole mess takes, the more phone calls are hitting Washington. So far it’s 100-1 against the stimulus. Flood Washington with phone calls, faxes and emails.

We need a truth commission to document the death and maiming caused by rat treason. We should correlate rat treason with battlefield injuries and death. We should let the enemy tell us which rats inspired them the most. We should allow the families of those maimed to bring litigation against the treasonness rats. We should punish every leaker of secret documents that harmed our brave men and women in uniform.

We did have a Truth Commission. It was headed by Joe McCarthy. What these guys want is a Lie Commission. It’s designed to deflect attention from the economic problem. Expect plenty of this kind of theatre in the next couple years.
