The US hero died while trying to save lives... even though not too many Afghan Muslims (whose lives he was saving...) even appreciate it.

This is a little weird to me. On Friday I was speaking to a young female Army First Lieutenant of Engineers that was wearing a EOCA patch. I asked her want it was for, and she said it was a lesser form of Explosive Ordance Disposal. They were trained to disable some lesser forms of IEDs etc. I told her that, if I were her, I’d call EOD instead.

I wonder if the personnel doing this operation were EOCA instead of EOD?

Whatever, they are still heros in my book. I just wish there were safer ways to deal with these things.

In my day we would blow such ordnance in place with a block of C-4 pressed over the fuses. It may have been that this device (it mentions bombs) was too close to houses and people so the engineers were told to defuse it.

For intel gathering reasons, they want the bombs brought back intact in order to type track bomb makers, teachers etc...

They need ROBOTS to do this.

Rather than lose some EOD guys it would have been better to rebuild a bunch of Houses.

I just finished EOCA, and the one most important things we learned is, we do NOT approach IEDs. I don’t know who the LT was, but this is the problem when you have officers that have no experience with explosives wanted to do an enlisted job. EOD is the ONLY people authorized to approach or RSP an IED. (Thats why WE trained on robots) Please, if you see her, kick her in the head. It’s people like her that will start giving us a bad rep with EOD. If you would only tell me her name??
