For those who don’t understand what Neverdem is asking, he is asking me why I don’t link to the printer friendly version of the articles I post instead of the main article with all of is html, java, and other bells and whistles that can clog up some readers’ older computers.

Congratulations, you you made two assumptions, and both are wrong. First, I just asked could you access the printer friendly link, not your posting habits and the reason or reasons for it.

I gave your suggestion some serious consideration, in fact I even did it your way for awhile. But then I decided that the articles I link to have advertisers who pay the sites and authors that only show up in the regular links. So for allowing me the privilege to post their thoughtful prose, I think its the least I can do. Yes it can take a while for the articles to load on older computers but they do eventually load. Sounds crass but my suggestion is for those people to get a new computer. Its what I do every few years.

Second, download time is far more dependent on broadband access than how new your computer is, IMHO. Many parts of the country are still restricted to dialup service.

Ah one should never assume. Sorry. But remember you emailed me once on this very subject as I framed it so I hope you can understand my confusion. And you are right, having broadband or not has a greater impact on how quickly pages will load. My only excuse for not focusing on this aspect is that I have had broadband for many years now and take it for granted that everyone else has it as well. My mistake. Doing a little googling, the best figures I can come up with(and its from 2007) is that aprox 72% of adults have broadband access and a little over half of US households subscribe. I couldn't find figures on how many simply aren't provided with a broadband option.  But I take your point. Many out there simply don't have that option. For those, I hope that reading the full articles right on FR is useful enough. And from now on when FR requires that I excerpt from an article, I will link to the printer friendly version of the article to make things easier for them.  As for your original request for a link to a printer friendly version of this article, here ya go:  http://blog.heritage.org/2009/02/06/green-collar-jobs-%e2%80%93-not-on-this-planet/print/
