I don’t know if you were around or an adult during the Carter years but his ineptitude, that is being surpassed by Obama, is what brought us Reagan. Absent that, no way in hell would Reagan have been elected, so thank GOD for Carter. Folks in 1980 didn’t so much vote FOR Reagan as AGAINST Carter. In 1984 they voted FOR Reagan.

However, reviewing the countless primary threads that were posted here last year, I’m not even too sure Reagan would have gotten the 1980 nomination. There is always a horde that will find flaw with each Republican who puts his/her hat in the ring. Then they will pick, pick, pick until there’s only a carcass left.

Why good people would step forward and enter the public arena of politics is beyond me.

I know what you mean. Here in SC we have a lot of these Ron Paul rednecks who are actually out attacking Sarah Palin on a lot of stupid phony crap. Some people just put there heads up their you know what and keep them there. A lot of these people are also populists. They live like conservatives, but they just don't get it when it comes to politics. I think we can thank the public schools for some of this subconscious inbred socialism.
