Obama's NSC Will Get New Power (focus on climate change...)
Washington Post ^ | Feb. 8, 2009 | Karen DeYoung

"The whole concept of what constitutes the membership of the national security community -- which, historically has been, let's face it, the Defense Department, the NSC itself and a little bit of the State Department, to the exclusion perhaps of the Energy Department, Commerce Department and Treasury, all the law enforcement agencies, the Drug Enforcement Administration, all of those things -- especially in the moment we're currently in, has got to embrace a broader membership," he said.

New NSC directorates will deal with such department-spanning 21st-century issues as cybersecurity, energy, climate change, nation-building and infrastructure. Many of the functions of the Homeland Security Council, established as a separate White House entity by President Bush after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, may be subsumed into the expanded NSC, although it is still undetermined whether elements of the HSC will remain as a separate body within the White House.

Over the next 50 days, John O. Brennan, a CIA veteran who serves as presidential adviser for counterterrorism and homeland security and is Jones's deputy, will review options for the homeland council, including its responsibility for preparing for and responding to natural and terrorism-related domestic disasters

Note that they want to change the NSC to focus, not only on Defense issues, but to also include the Energy, Commerce, and Treasury Dept-s. You know what that means: preventing terrorism will not be a central focus, it will be just one of many issues, to include finding people who don't pay taxes ( as long as they are not Democrats), finding people who break energy conservation and climate change rules.

No more separate Homeland Security Council.

How brilliant!

This would be disturbing even if we didn't face such cunning and determined enemy as the Islamic terrorists, but considering that, this is downright dangerous to the well being of the US. Obama is bound and determined to unilaterally disarm us so we won't know when a terrorist attack is coming and won't be able to prevent it.

He considers the average US citizen as the real enemy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_National_Security_Council

The White House National Security Council (NSC) in the United States is the principal forum used by the President for considering national security and foreign policy matters with his senior national security advisors and Cabinet officials and is part of the Executive Office of the President of the United States. Since its inception under President Harry S. Truman, the function of the Council has been to advise and assist the President on national security and foreign policies. The Council also serves as the President’s principal arm for coordinating these policies among various government agencies.

The National Security Council was created in 1947 by the National Security Act. The intent was to ensure coordination and concurrence among the Navy, Army, Air Force and other instruments of national security policy (such as the Central Intelligence Agency, or CIA, also created in the National Security Act).

The decision process inside the structure has become less and less formal, but influence of the Council has become stronger and stronger. Detailed history of the National Security Council under each Presidential administration since its inception can be found at: link above.

The pending disaster of this policy change is profound. Unfortunatly, the scope of disaster may take decades to unfold. We will wake up in 20 to 30 years without the means and will to protect ourselves from the evil that lurks.

Actually, I believe that Hussein and his ilk will get 110% of everything that they want.

The so called "stimulus bill" is nothing more than an irreversible trend into Socialist/democrat control, and future upper tier 3rd world status.

I'm not sure the left ever thought it was a real problem to begin with. It was all a concoction of Bush's and the Neocons to control us.

Obama's legacy is liable to be bathed in our blood.

And may it all be used against them...done unto them as they would do unto us.

I think this is pretty nifty. Statistically, we are basically looking at the NSC convening at least once a week, and may even go into 24-hour operations permanently.

You can sit and imagine Hurricane Katrina...with some global warming expert sitting there and spilling lots of juicy stuff at the meeting which has no impact or meaning on the emergency at hand. The FEMA chief and the Homeland Security guy are just furious that this guy gets into every topic of conversation. These idiots will stand there....twenty of them in nature...watching five separate plasma TV’s, and trying to continually stop the on-scene guy from conducting the “planned operation” because CBS says things are screwed up. Eventually...several guys will start a fist fight and Obama will have to have armed guards within the room with the idiots.

The nice thing about this....we can probably get more Senators recruited into the adviser positions...sooner or later, Obama will accidentally have the one competent senator walk in and actually do his job.

The curious thing out of this entire announcement...the NSC handles things that are of an extreme and fast-acting nature. How will global warming fit into this scheme? No one on the Obama staff will be able to explain that...unless they admit that the NSC will handle turtle-speed events as well.

As I stated to you in another thread in which I observed that, "only tyrants combine military and domestic policy":

I am inclined to believe that the founding fathers knew what they are doing when they separated powers.

I am further inclined to believe that the legislators knew what they were doing when they separated the CIA from the FBI, when they passed posse comitas, when they declined to establish a national police force.

I think the American people always been instinctively correct in abhorring the cult of personality.

As one who has warned time and again on these threads before the election that we might be facing a Manchurian Marxist if we put this man in the White House, I remain profoundly frightened for my republic.

I guess we’ll only deal with terrorists if they are exhaling large quantities of CO2.

When we are attacked again. And we will be attacked by the Islamists that hate us. 0bama owns it.

Prayers for all of us.
