Dear Friends,
Last night the Senate announced an agreement on an economic stimulus bill that would cost anywhere between $780 billion and $1.1 trillion. Debate is scheduled to continue through the weekend with a vote to cut off debate on Monday.
While proponents of the legislation claim it will stimulate the nation's economy, I firmly believe it does not do enough to confront the problems causing America's economic downturn. As a result, I will vote against cutting off debate on Monday.
This legislation is yet another example of Congress throwing money at the symptoms but not getting to the root of the problem. While there are some good provisions in this bill, it is primarily spending money on programs that should not be categorized as stimulus and will not do anything to help our economy.
While I am pleased the Senate agreed unanimously to add my homebuyer tax credit to this bill, I am disappointed the Senate was not able to eliminate the wasteful spending and make meaningful steps towards restoring our nation's economy.
Sincerely, Johnny Isakson
Is he a Democrat? If not, why is this news?
These GOP Senators guys need to fight like tigers now. Obama dn the Dems are taking us down the path to Chavez Venezuela, Mugabe’s Zimbabwe and Argentina corrupt kleptocracy.
This is not about stimulus it is about making the Dems the majority party for the next 50+ years, controlling the elections with ACORN/SEIU/CAIR/LaRaza and other anti-freedom groups.
Isakson and his office are a bunch of ignorant wipes.
Great idea....
throw more money at an already failed situation. AND, lets reward new speculators and fund new scams.
Yet he and buddy Chambliss can’t speak out about the rest of this stimulus abortion.
Both my senators are f...ing clueless.
Don’t get me started on BC issues or climate change.
My puppies have bigger onions.
“These GOP Senators guys need to fight like tigers now.”
I agree, but thus far they’ve been fighting like kittens. Specter, Snowe, and Collins need to be punished.
I went to his website and had to scroll through three tabs to find out his party affiliation. He sure wants to minimize it.
So he’s a Republican. So his voting against cloture with 38? other Republicans means what? Is he just announcing to his constituents why he’s standing with the other Republicans? Fine, but cloture will pass anyway?
Why is this news? Perhaps because his explanation of his reasons is particularly compelling?
(look what else the commie vampires have in mind for us)

Giving Isakson a standing ovation.
Isakson is Republican.
I agree. The only thing to come out of GA going to Washington is our HOP reps (well most)
This is huge for ole Johnnie, he is a RINO!!!! Can’t wait for someone to challenge him and send him packing.
I hope Johnny and his pals corner Arlen Sphincter and Susan Hepburn and tell them they need to change their votes...and let ‘em know that with extreme prejudice.
