I don’t want them on US soil. I like the Arctic climate idea though. Maybe Putin might rent us a gullogue in Siberia or an island in the Arctic Ocean north of Siberia...Just a thought.

BTW this article is a setup for prosecuting Cheney as a war criminal. Bush has executive immunity but the left wants Cheney’s scalp in the worst way.

>THE BEST PART OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION WAS THE VICE PRESIDENCY UNDER DICK CHENEY

I will always miss
Rumsfeld, too. He seemed to know
what was going on.

Cheney 'stood in the way'? Oh, hogwash. Bush was the President. He may have looked at the possibility of closing Gitmo multiple times, but as a President should, he listened to the varying arguments pro and con then made a decision.

I think his decision was a good one. Too bad Obama isn't as smart. (But of course, I didn't expect he would be.)

President Bush...our Obama warm-up in more ways than originally thought.

Let me get this straight. . .you take what CBS news says as gospel?

Um. . .okay.

It's sounds like Waxman wants to "blame " Cheney for keeping America safe.

"Yea, right, CBS, whatever you say."

Exactly!!!!!! And what is with all the reactionary FREEPERS taking CBS's word and dissing BUSH. He is an actual quote from June 14, 2006 in the Times Online:

President Bush said today that he would like to close down the Guantanamo Bay prison camp on Cuba, but for the fact that some of the terror suspects held there were too "darned dangerous" to release.

Rumsfeld? Have you've been partying with Michael Phelps?
Rummy was the worst since Robt. Strange McNamara! Hated at the Pentagon as a micromanager, hated in the field by grunts trying their best to fight with the "Army (junk) we go to war with" instead of MRAPS, Rummy was the obstacle to Petraeus's surge strategy and the main reason for the 2006 Congressional turnover. Bush should have canned him long before the "thumpin'" in 2006...it took Lincoln only a few months to get rid of War Secretary Simon Cameron who couldn't do the job he was hired to do!

“There is no proof whatsoever that this is true... and evidence to the contrary that it is false.”

There is evidene to the contrary, namely that Bush didn’t close Gitmo. He was president, after all, and could have done so if he really wanted to. Since he didn’t, this is a non-story. What matters is what administrations do, not what how they differ at various isolated points in time.

Thank you for your reasoned comment. I remember when FreeRepublic consisted of mostly informed posters. Now it seems it is full of reactionaries to ridiculous (even lying) DBM assertions. I wonder if they are really uninformed of past history or just disrupters.
