Molestation allegations against well-regarded Puebloan [McCain campaign manager]

A wide-ranging investigation has been launched into allegations that a well-known Pueblo resident has molested many boys over the years, including most recently when he was the manager for Sen. John McCain's presidential-campaign office in Pueblo.

Under investigation is Jeffrey Claude Bartleson, 52, who was arrested Jan. 29 and then re-arrested Wednesday after a campaign worker in the McCain office told police she believed Bartleson molested one of her sons.

Sgt. Brett Wilson, who heads the Pueblo Police Department's special victims unit, said today that there are "several active investigations" involving Bartleson.

In related coverage from The Pueblo [CO] Chieftain:

"According to an arrest affidavit by Pueblo police Detective Dan Anderson, Bartleson has been investigated at least five times for similar allegations since 1982, although never charged or convicted of a crime."

I have no comment on this other than that McCain's campaign HR staff should have done better background investigations on personnel.

These dreadful people roam many parts of the country.

It certainly would have been a good idea for McLame to have done a better background check, perhaps-----might have saved a couple of people working for him a lot of grief.

“I have no comment on this other than that McCain’s campaign HR staff should have done better background investigations on personnel.”

Or McCain knew and was going to use his political influence to drop a lash on any outsider rocking the boat. We really don’t know how dirty McCain is, and I bet he is really dirty in many areas.

Plenty of sexual deviant scumbags from either party to go around. At least you can pay backtaxes. You cannot undo an attack from a sexual predator whether he is an R or a D.

My guess is that the poster’s comment was made in parody of the typical comments you hear from the neighbors and friends of the accused.

Background checks needed, character counts above everything else.

I wonder why he was never charged or convicted with so many investigations.

And even more, I wonder why McCain kept him in his employ.

Thanks, I admit I'm a little snake-bitten on the subject. Several years ago a family friend I would have sworn by confessed to molesting his own 5 year old son. His wife had suspected something was going on, but he kept convincing her that she was nuts, that the very idea was crazy.

She finally had proof with a pair of their son's underwear and called the police. He confessed completely, and even said he'd started as a babysitter in his teen years.

He was the last person you would guessed, and even with his full confession I was in a kind of shock for at least 24 hours afterward.

It's some sort of a weird betrayal feeling when you think you know a longtime friend - but you never really knew them at all. Anyhoo, that's why I replied as I did.

I don’t give a crap who he worked for or whether he was a cannonized saint. Prove him guilty in a court of law, beat the schize out of him, and throw him in the pen with the other vermin.

Wow - totally understandable. Life has a way of throwing incredible curveballs at us, probably a lot of the time when we least expect it. You’re going along, doing your thing, and then WHAM - something like that comes along.
