You're forgetting that the folks you're talking about see their choices as Perfect Conservative or Stay Home On Election Day.
How many times have we read "RINO!" and "Real Conservatives stay home rather than vote for McAmnesty" and blah blah blah? That mindset seems based on the curious, childish idea that if one doesn't accept reality then somehow reality will be worn down and have to accept YOU.
Ronald Reagan is everyone's idea of the best possible conservative president, and I've got news for the purists, he made several whoppers in office. (Amnesty, for one.) Yet no one with a working brain would say we shouldn't have had him as president because he wasn't pure enough.
My personal motto is to push for conservative candidates through donations and conversation with fellow voters, but on election day, vote Republican. Somehow I'd be able to live with a President McCain, as disagreeable as that idea is, and the incessant bitching of certain FReepers who would be filling this place 24/7 with "I told you not to vote for him, *I* didn't, I'm a REAL American!" than with the horrible president we have now.
And again I ask, where are these "pure" voters? Haven't seen any of them--not a one--step forward to claim glory for their "real" Americanism and the president they wanted in order to "teach the GOP a lesson."
I’ve actually seen some claim they wrote in Ron Paul or voted for Baldwin or Barr.. jeeze.. might have just wrote in Ronald McDonald, it would have the same impact.
Although I understand the point you're trying to make, KG, it's a huge moot point. President Bush (not just "Bush" to me) NEVER DID DO something like this. He is the commander-in-chief responsible for our troops having caught, killed, or otherwise neutered thousands of Islamofacists since 9/11/01.
The precise reason why Obama is doing "something like this" is because the Left and its fellow media travelers have harped on how horrible President Bush was for taking all the measures he did to keep us safe. The Left doesn't want us to be safe. They brought lawsuit after lawsuit after lawsuit to delay the military tribunals. They lied and cheated and spread vile propaganda to undermine GWB's anti-terrorism policies. They bought time until they could elect the Marxist Obama.
None of us should ever forget what the Left has done and is continuing to do to enable Islamofacist killers to attack us...but most will forget.
On Jan 29, it came to light that NObama is demanding that all of the military swear their oath of allegience to the PRESIDENT instead of to the CONSTITUTION.
Take that a step further:
IF the military does this change in oath, then NObama tells them to sweep the country, confiscate guns and ammo and arrest the home owners.
Will the military comply?
If they refuse, then NObama can court martial them.......
This man is more than a little dangerous.
If someone has introduced a gun confiscation bill, I will bet that NObama asked them to do so.

0bama has never served a minute in any military capacity. To him the military is part of the problem. He is unfit to serve as CIC. The only question is how many Americans he will get killed before he is removed from office.

But McCain told King he thinks the new president may have been hasty in the decision and should have taken the time to consider everything associated with closing the camp before forcing himself into a timetable.
I also think that we should have addressed this whole issue completely, because it did not address the issue of those who we have in custody and can’t — and no country will take them back. We should have addressed the issue of those who we know would pose a threat to the United States, but we don’t have sufficient evidence to move forward.
McCain said instead of closing Guantanamo Bay outright, he would have first continued the military commissions, which “after years of delay and obfuscation” were finally moving toward trials.

Well, I haven’t been able to talk to my daughters yet since this last reply from them so I can only hope that the other sailors feel the same as my daughters. PO’d, not demoralized!!! I know that there is at least some voiced derision for sailors who are known to have voted for the O.
I am sure they are all PO’d.
And Obama is going to keep chipping away.

The Officer's oath is specifically to the Constitutionm.

I have heard nothing specific, or documented beyond hearsay that changes this. Only seen this. If he tried, there would be a rebelllion in the ranks and civil war.
Obama is a marxist ideolog that intends to bring fundamental change through economics, foreign policy, immigration, etc. But he will be much more subtle than this because such a move as this would unveil him and stop him cold in his tracks.
