Leon E. Panetta, President Obama's pick to head the CIA, earned more than $1 million last year in consulting and speaking fees and service on the boards of nearly a dozen institutions and corporations, according to documents released yesterday.

Panetta's largest consulting fee came last year from California State University's Office of the Chancellor, which paid him $150,000 for a variety of activities, an Obama spokesman said. These included helping establish a literacy program called America Reads and creating a new campus at Monterey Bay. He also received a salary of $50,000 from Santa Clara University, where he teaches and serves as an outside speaker.

Panetta's largest director's fee last year, $170,000 in cash and stock options, came from Zenith National Insurance, which promotes safety on the job but specializes in protecting businesses from the financial consequences of workplace injuries. Other board members include Catherine B. Reynolds, head of EduCap, a controversial student loan company that is under investigation by the IRS.
Separately, the Senate intelligence committee is looking into Panetta's ties to EduCap, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The company's ties to Thomas A. Daschle became an issue in his failed bid to become secretary of health and human services.
Panetta was paid $125,000 in director fees from BP Corporation North America -- three former senators, Warren B. Rudman (R-N.H.), Alan K. Simpson (R-Wyo.) and Daschle (D-S.D.) -- were on the board with him. Panetta received an additional $120,000 from the Fleishman-Hillard public relations firm for serving on its international advisory board, which also included former House speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.).

Zero. Just working on his legacy.
btt... who would have thought bambi would be so entertaining.. too bad it is entertaining like skydiving with no chute.
Liberals are willing to pay liberal politicians millions of dollars for doing nothing. Typically, they use someone else’s money to do it, though. No wonder there are so many liberal politicians.
If it smells like a lobbyist....
A “new campus”! How does this work. How does a University need help to establish a new campus?
Good thing California is so fiscally sound.
Greta van Sustrin just reported that Pannetta received $700,000 from investment banks (now not investment banks) who received TARP moneys. Gee, Leon, sounds like you are taking advantage of the taxpayer.
Didn’t the Clintons use that line?
Please call on me, teach. Call on me!!
And more...

I wouldn't follow this clown (Obambi) in a fire drill
I’d really like to know who is doing the digging and bringing this stuff to light. A lot of it goes right to taxes so I suspect there’s somebody in the IRS with an axe to grind.

Well, it was not intentional, I used Quick Books, and we all know how complicated that is.
Barny Frank says you are only allowed to earn $500,000 if your a CEO, so he will have to turn the excess back in, right. I mean it would only be "fair," especially when much of it is government money, including money from places that received TARP funds or were state or federal agencies, or like a university. :) -- or should I not hold my breath?
btt... who would have thought bambi would be so entertaining.. too bad it is entertaining like skydiving with no chute.
