Bird remains in both engines of US Airways jet

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Bird remains were found in both engines of a US Airways jetliner that lost power and ditched in New York's Hudson River last month, U.S. transportation investigators said on Wednesday.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said both engines of the Airbus A320 were damaged and contained "organic material" that was sent to bird experts at the Smithsonian Institution for identification. The board previously had said bird remains were found in the right engine, and now has confirmed the same in the left engine.

The pilot of Flight 1549 bound for Charlotte, North Carolina, radioed to air traffic controllers that the plane had struck a flock of birds, knocking out both engines, shortly after takeoff from LaGuardia airport on January 15.

The jetliner could not return to LaGuardia or find another suitable landing spot, so the crew glided down to the river. All 155 passengers and crew escaped.

No kidding (sarc).

I guess Bill O will have to find some other thing to get all fired up about. I couldn’t believe Bill O was ranting about some US Airways cover-up. Jet engines “stall,” and when they do, it isn’t like your 57 Chevy conking out, it is a disruption of the airflow and that disruption causes a compressor stall that sometimes goes undetected, and sometimes like when a bird goes down the intake it causes engine damage due to a severe disruption of the airflow. Bill O looked really ignorant when he said “a single bird can’t take down an airliner.”

O is the biggest ass on TV. He never learned to control his mouth and let his guest respond. This nitwit is arrogant and his twisted mind is beyond reason.

I guess we will have to be in violent agreement on that.

Must have studied science alongside Rosie O ("fire can't melt steel").

I find it amazing that an upright citizen tries an extraordinary measure to save, in actuality, possibly thousands of fellow citizens and his word, We hit a flock of birds., was investigated, kept mum until an investigation was completed and YET, tax cheats are touted as “The most honorable person I’ve ever met. It was just an oversight.” AND one of them got a job. Is the world upside down or am I going nuts?

Actually, a better rendition would be:

Bill Jumpin

I honestly don't know how people watch that guy. If the birds are big enough, they can bring down a plane with a double strike.

Thats his whole strategy. Try to be “edgy” enough so that your show becomes must see TV for dopes. Lots of TV “talent” have based their career on drawing attention to themselves by being deliberately provocative, rude, or stupid.

O had his pal Whorealdo on ranting about a ‘coverup’ with regard to the plane.

Those two deserve each other.

One strike, depending upon a few factors.
