10.8% in my county. Kern County, CA. How will you folks keep the tanks to your El Caminos and lowriders filled?

Siphon hose.

Checked out the unemployment chart in earlier post. AZ 6.9% 12-08, 6.0% 12-78

Nice try... but the worst didn't hit until 1981. The Reagan tax cuts didn't bring strong results for almost two years.... then the boom happened. Also, we're not talking about individual states...we're talking about the country as a whole. Nationally, we are in better shape now than in 1981. Outside of the financial meltdown brought on by Democrat/Marxist programs such as Fannie Mae (which was created during the Carter Administration, btw) which were manipulated by Barnie Frank, Maxine Waters, Christopher Dodd, just to name a few who thwarted every attempt to rein it in and stop it from blowing up. Even with banks in trouble, our economy GREW 1.83% in 2008.

The real reason South Dakota has such low unemployment is that people simply leave the state when they lose work, and virtually nobody moves TO North Dakota. The state’s population peaked in 1930. They also have a hard time keeping their young people, a source of much hand-wringing in the state, which is graying rapidly.

I wonder how long it will take to get to 25% unemployment. Probably two years, I guess...

Not long at all in California if they can't raise enough money to pay all of the government workers. The only thing keeping the rate as low as it is are the thousands of make-work jobs created by the Dems in Sacramento. Heck look at how low the unemployment in VA and MD is. Its because the rest for the nation is subsidizing the government jobs in those states.

But unlike the Feds, California can't borrow any more, and already has cripplingly high taxes. Now they are going to have to cut government make-work jobs or raise taxes, that will cost them twice as many nongovernmental jobs.

Looks like the states that are faring the best are ones that produce food and raw materials.
