I still think that if Daschole had wanted to, he could have stuck this out and been confirmed, given how spineless the Senate GOP is. While I don't agree with his politics and I think he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for not paying the same tax that we are all subject to, I do think he did the right thing by withdrawing, regardless of his other tax liabilities and other issues.

That being said, I hope the IRS throws the book at him and Tim Geithner as well.

According to Biden: Obama Cabinet Most “Unpatriotic” In History

With the withdrawals today of two more Obama cabinet nominees, both because of failure to properly file and pay their taxes, some additional light is shed on VP Joe Biden’s campaign pronouncement that it’s “patriotic” to pay taxes.

On Sept 8th, Joe Biden called for higher taxes on the “wealthy,” saying that it was the “patriotic thing to do.”

“We want to take money and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people,” Biden said in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Noting that wealthier Americans would indeed pay more, Biden said: “It’s time to be patriotic ... time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut.”
