“Now put him on trial for income tax evasion.”

Geithner goes first.

How many people know whether to pay tax on employer provided perks? Very few.
I don’t think there is any criminal case against Daschle.

I think most employers with take home company vehicles cover that subject pretty well with employees, because there can be implications for them as well.

I don't know if it applies to company cars, but last year I had a taxable benefit of a few thousand and I was able to reduce it by half with a fair market value adjustment. For the tax on use of a car over three years to top 100 grand it must have been some car.

I don’t think there is any criminal case against Daschle.

Articles I have read indicate Daschle has known about this car issue for quite a while. But somewhat ironically, he may benefit from the Contract with America, which promised and delivered legislation putting full burden of proof on the IRS in tax evasion cases.
