I think it hit more with those of us who worked in big corporations though.

Yes, I worked over forty years ago in offices without cubicles, just a lot of desks in a big open room. I can quote examples of stupid managers who were as idiotic as anything I ever saw in a Dilbert strip. Even the name Dilbert was a synonym for stupid when I was in the Navy back in 1962. It seems there was another character by that name in an old strip, I never saw it but was told about it by other Seamen. I used to wonder if Adams got the idea for the name from the older strip.
